October 18th Meeting

Greetings, Everyone.

We’re pleased to announce that Miriam Raftery, founder and editor of the East County Magazine, will air her perspectives on several East County wind turbine projects at our East County Democratic Club on October 18.Miriam has enabled many people who are directly impacted by the projects to share their concerns about the disastrous effects these so-called green energy projects have on their communities and lives. Miriam, her reporters, photographers, and community supporters have tried to alert officials about the perils of the destruction of Ocotillo and surrounding areas. To date, the corporations seem to be moving ahead, undaunted by pleas from outraged community leaders and environmentalists. Come to our ECDC meeting and get the details from Miriam herself.

Miriam brings over 30 years of experience in media, marketing, major event organizing, fundraising and grant writing to her leadership of the East County Magazine (ECM). As an award-winning journalist, she has won dozens of top journalism awards for her writing for national and local publications. She has also written and produced a play on women’s history and authored a script on La Mesa’s history. Her company, Writer Ink, has handled marketing and business writing projects for major companies such as Marcus & Millichap, commercial real estate, and Questar Pools (named by the Robb Report as the world’s most influential pool designer). Miriam also has a background in the arts as former assistant to San Diego Symphony Maestro David Atherton and to the orchestra’s manager.

We meet at Coco’s restaurant, 1025 Fletcher Parkway, El Cajon. Come at 6 p.m. to dine/buy a soda or wine and socialize. Come at 7 p.m. for the meeting with our speaker followed by candidates and other club affairs. Come and bring a friend or two or more!

In closing, we want to remind you that early voting and mail balloting begins the week of October 8. Please vote and ask your friends to do the same, if not earlier, definitely on November 6! If you’re undecided about who to support, remember to review our Democratic Party endorsements at http://sddemocrats.org/democratic_candidates.asp Also, ECDC is on record as supporting local proposition V and finding Robert Amador as an Acceptable candidate for judge.
