June 20th Meeting

This month for our meeting on Thursday June 20th we have as our guest speaker Dave Patterson.

Dave Patterson is a Veterans for Peace activist from San Diego, California. He is a Past President and current No Drone Coordinator for the San Diego Veterans for Peace. Dave speaks of drones and his weekly protests at General Atomics, manufacturer of Predator and Reaper drones. SDVFP is concerned with the U.S. Government’s growing reliance on aerial drones to pursue its war on al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Yemen, Afghanistan, and elsewhere that is proving controversial—as evidenced by the international reaction to recent drone missile attacks along the border with Pakistan.

San Diego Veterans for Peace is a concerned group of patriotic veterans who feel compelled to speak out at this crucial time in our country’s history. While members of the American uniformed services, they were duty-bound and did not ask questions concerning their mission. Now, as discharged veterans and private citizens, they feel duty-bound to demand answers concerning the mission of our current service members, and to ensure that the sacrifices of American soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen are not taken lightly nor expended on frivolous endeavors.

As veterans with a range of experience and of military service, they act together to help educate our community about the American military culture and concerns. When you talk to one of their members, you know there is a passion and it is not something you will hear or read about in a glossy brochure.

It is without a doubt that their activism stems from a deep love of our country, but also with a connection to humanity. It is from this background that they have come together in the San Diego area to join in one clear voice. San Diego Veterans for Peace will work toward a world of peace and justice, and will continue their commitment toward security, national and global, using nonviolent means. www.sdvfp.org
